How we met

Short version - We met in Ottawa Canada while attending a convention for a 1980s children TV show.

Longer version (by quite a bit!) - So how exactly did a Texan gal and a Nebraskan guy end up meeting in Canada?? It’s all thanks to a 1980s kids show on Nickelodeon called You Can’t Do That on Television. For its 25th anniversary of being first aired, some rabid fans decided to pull a convention together that took place in Ottawa in the very studio that it was produced. At this SlimeCon, old episodes were shown, old cast members interviewed, and old props were shown off to the public.

One of the more famed sketches included a horrible cook named Barth and his horrible burgers made commonly of roadkill. Since these burgers had to be edible props of course, they had to be gotten from somewhere, and that somewhere was a fast food place named called Harvey’s. On Saturday, that was where the convention had lunch… but since it was several blocks away we all had to walk over there. Being in a wheelchair and having to push himself, Brian was understandably slower than most; but then again, so was Anita. So it was at this slow pace that the two struck up a conversation that continued through lunch. Considering that the walk was a little arduous and the burgers were just barely palatable, the conversation was definitely the high point of the journey.

While the two parted ways for the day after lunch, it was not the last time they met. The next day, just as Brian was in the lobby checking out of the hotel, Anita walked in with a load of laundry. Since Brian was a) obviously not a stalker, and b) had pictures of some of the events of the convention that Anita had not been able to attend, the two decided to exchange emails. And the rest, as you say, is history…
